Connect Serial Devices to a PC Host over Ethernet Networks Quickly and Cost-effectively
Transparent Data Gateway allows RS-232/ 422/ 485 serial devices to be connected to a PC host over Ethernet networks quickly and cost-effectively. No extra engineering programming effort is required at the host computer. The ADAM-4570/ 4571 series empowers RS-232/ 422/ 485 serial devices with Ethernet connectivity devoid of any driver or users' application reconfiguration.

Do any of your manuals document noise and grounding issues with RS-485 communication?

Yes. The ADAM-5000 RS-485 Based Data Acquisition and Control System User's Manual has a particularly good discussion of this subject in Appendix F. This information is appropriate for all Advantech devices communicating over RS-485 serial links.

I want to use Ethernet I/O, but the wiring is more expensive and cumbersome (due to the hubs and switches required) than a standard RS-485 multi-drop network. Is there a solution for combining the benefits of both networks?

Yes. We would recommend using the ADAM-4000 Modbus/RTU modules that are networked together with an inexpensive and clean RS-485 multi-drop twisted pair wire. At the end of this Modbus/RTU RS-485 network, we would place an ADAM-4572 Modbus Gateway that will convert the Mobdus/RTU protocol to Modbus/TCP and connect into your Ethernet network.

See how ADAM Products were used for Pressure and Temperature Monitoring in Oil Storage Tanks
Continuous pressure and temperature monitoring is very important at an oil storage facility. Operators must be able to monitor and adjust the inlet and outlet pressure of every pump in the complex from a central control room. Operators must also monitor the pumps? shaft temperature during operation to prevent overheating of the shaft and to maintain a high level of safety throughout the system. In addition to pressure and temperature monitoring, the system has to transmit alarm signals to inform the operator when temperature and pressure deviate from acceptable bounds, allowing the operator to take corrective action.
